Ragtime, meditation, and it’s beginning to look (a bit) like Christmas…
May was a bit of a slow period inspiration-wise. You never can tell with creativity - sometimes dozens of ideas pop, other times I need to listen and relisten to a genre / collection I’m trying to publish before I’m satisfied I can’t improve upon it anymore. It’s a strange thing - I’ve never fully wrapped my head around it, but the less I try to psychoanalyze it, the better the ideas and workflow moves and I just have to throw my hands up and, well, stop thinking. :)
The results of procrastinating were multiple. I’ve been able to focus on some advertising, working with Diane @ The Boss Agency to start sharpening my content and advertising reach. I’m at about the 1/2 way point with my developers on the new website redesign, and pretty soon I’ll be given the tool to start loading my new site with my song catalog, adding meta data to the tracks so that they’re easily searchable and you can find EXACTLY what you need for your next project in no time at all. Plus, I’ll have auto-generated attribution language and a shopping cart for extended licenses - you will be able to do everything here. Hoping the final version will be live / functional by Fall ‘24!
So…maybe NOT procrastinating, but rather focusing on the administration of the back end of the biz. It’s A LOT of work - but man, seeing the music in action and being used and enjoyed is worth every second of it!
Take me to task on this, as I need ALL THE HELP POSSIBLE: I will absolutely be releasing Christmas music this year. How much? Well, depends how many genres I can get to this summer. I figure if I can focus on my short form albums July / August it stands to reason I can heavily focus on holiday music for the longer form tunes and do that in varying styles for people. My goal is simple: find 7-8 tunes that resonate with people every year, do a traditional album, then run amok on other styles (Cyberpunk Christmas?!) until I feel like I’ve exhausted myself creatively. Then, I’ll start releasing the music in October as a ramp-up for the holiday season. Wish me luck!
Finally, content: I’ve been doing demo videos of me in the studio. People seem to like that. I’m also going to start do some exploration videos with different VSTs (software synthesizers for those not in the know). Half of the time this is for myself, which I think helps because it makes it more authentic? Content creating is such a delicate dance! Trying to think of ways to entertain or flow personality into the posts so that it doesn’t come across as self promotion 100% of the time - that’s important, especially when there’s a timely release tied to holidays or events, but hey, I’m finding the groove in all of this.
Until next update…
